Balgarianovinite.com The vocal ensemble Bella Voce performed works by George Frideric Handel, Jacques Offenbach, Giacomo Puccini, Cesare Andrea Bixio, Francesco Paolo Tosti, Georges Bizet, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, George Gershwin, Ernesto de Curtis, Vincenzo di Chiara, and Agustin Lara at a concert in Sofia on Saturday evening.
Sopranos Rossitsa Pavlova-Indzheva, Elena Mehandzhiyska, Maria Yakovcheva, and Milena Gyurova were accompanied on the stage by pianist Stefan Vrachev. The concert, entitled Belle Nuit, was directed by Rositsa Kostova.
The programme featured Handel’s Joy to the World, the Barcarolle from Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann, Aria of Lauretta from Gianni Schicchi and Musetta’s Waltz from Puccini’s La Boheme, the Habanera and Gypsy Song from Bizet’s Carmen, duets from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, Summertime from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, and Granada by Agustin Lara.
Festive works were also included, such as the French folk song Il est ne le divin enfant, the duet of Hansel and Gretel from Engelbert Humperdinck’s opera, and Stille Nacht by Franz Xaver Gruber, which the quartet performed in both German and Bulgarian.
The concert lasted over an hour and ended with two encores.
Founded in 2014, Bella Voce is a female vocal quartet affiliated with the Sofia Philharmonic. Most of its concerts are presented as themed performances spanning different styles and eras, including opera arias, popular songs, and classical music, staged as shows featuring well-known Bulgarian actors and musicians. The ensemble also regularly takes part in Nuit des Choeurs, an event held for more than 20 years each summer at Villers Abbey in Belgium, on a natural stage set among the ruins of a nearly 900-year-old monastery near the historic site of Waterloo.
