Bulgarian Labour and Social Policy Minister Borislav Gutsanov and the delegation he leads are taking part in the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, Qatar, the Social Ministry said in a press release on Tuesday. The Bulgarian delegation also includes Deputy Labour and Social Policy Minister Natalia Efremova and Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) President Plamen Dimitrov.
More than 8,000 delegates from across the globe are attending the summit, which is organized by the United Nations. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres delivered a special address.
The meeting aims to chart a course for global action to address inequality and extreme poverty and to foster stronger social development through access to education and quality employment. A special declaration outlines the key priorities and reaffirms the participating states’ commitment to the three pillars of social development: eradicating poverty, ensuring decent work, and promoting social inclusion.
Minister Gutsanov met with European Commission Executive Vice President Roxana Minzatu, who is responsible for social rights and skills, quality jobs, and preparedness. Commissioner Minzatu visited Bulgaria in June, when she also held talks with Minister Gutsanov. On the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development, the two discussed the challenges facing Bulgaria and the wider region, as well as the need for a common European approach to addressing them.
During the event, Minister Gutsanov will deliver Bulgaria’s national statement at the plenary session and take part in a special discussion “Strengthening the Three Pillars of Social Development – Eradicating Poverty, Full and Productive Employment and Decent Work for All, and Social Inclusion.”
