Balgarianovinite.com The Council of Ministers on Wednesday granted consent to Bulgaria hosting the regular meeting in 2026 of the Belgian-Dutch Constituency at the International Monetary Fund and the Netherlands Constituency at the World Bank. The Cabinet mandated the Minister of Finance and proposed to the Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank, in their respective capacities as governors for Bulgaria at the two multilateral financial institutions, to make the necessary arrangements for organizing and holding the meeting.
Bulgaria hosted such meetings in 1999 and 2015.
“By hosting this event, our country will send a positive signal to the international community about its readiness to share the responsibilities of a shareholder in the international financial institutions. The meeting is usually attended by the executive directors for the constituency at the IMF and the World Bank Group, members of the senior management of the international financial institutions, and delegations of Member States including the finance ministers and the central bank governors,” the Government Information Service said.
At the IMF, Bulgaria is part of the 16-country Belgian-Dutch Constituency together with Andorra, Armenia, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Georgia, Israel, Luxembourg, Moldova, Montenegro, The Netherlands, North Macedonia, Romania, and Ukraine.
In the World Bank Group, Bulgaria belongs to the 13-country Netherlands Constituency, which also includes Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Georgia, Israel, Moldova, Montenegro, The Netherlands, North Macedonia, Romania, and Ukraine.
