Longtime pro-Trump influencer Dinesh D’Souza called out Tucker Carlson over the weekend, accusing the highly controversial pundit of deliberately “trying to rip MAGA apart.”
D’Souza took issue with some of Carlson’s most recent content on the Israel-Hamas war and wrote, “The problem with Tucker is not that he’s bad for Israel. He’s bad for Trump and MAGA. He’s trying to rip MAGA apart ideologically and generationally. I don’t know his motives, but who can be blind to the effects of his actions? And who benefits? The Left! The Islamic jihadis!”
Carlson has taken a sharp turn against Israel in recent months and has been accused of promoting anti-Semitic tropes, including during his speech at Charlie Kirk’s memorial.
D’Souza followed that post up with another offering some more details to his argument, “My point is not that Tucker is a paid shill. I have never said it, because I have no idea if it’s true. My point is that when you routinely bash our ally Israel, you help the double-dealing Qataris and the Iranian mullahs and radical jihadis everywhere.” He later added of Carlson:
I don’t want him “excommunicated.” I am merely pointing out that he and others are subverting MAGA. Just as we are busting these violent Antifa and trans networks, in the context of Charlie Kirk’s murder, does it help MAGA to scream with zero evidence, “The Jews did it”?
He also responded to a pro-Palestinian X user who wrote, “Jews don’t deserve a homeland.” D’Souza commented on the post, “At bottom isn’t this what Tucker, Candace and the others are saying? Christians have Europe and America, Muslims have 50 countries, Hindus have a country big enough for a billion people, but Jews don’t deserve the tiny ancestral place they inhabited going back 4,000 years. Wow!”
D’Souza followed up that post with another taking aim at Ian Carroll, a far-right influencer and Carlson ally, who claimed over the weekend that Charlie Kirk’s own organization may have had a hand in his brutal murder.
“Is this how the anti-Israel, anti-Jewish lobby is saving America I don’t think so,” D’Souza wrote, sharing a post from Carroll.
In recent months, Carlson conducted a friendly interview with the leader of Qatar, which led to accusations of foreign funding from his critics. Qatar has long funded and hosted Hamas’s leaders. Carlson’s interviews and wild claims – including that a demon physically attacked him – have raised eyebrows and sparked questions about his motivations.
Carlson fiercely debated the Israel-Iran conflict with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), which led many observers to wonder why Carlson treated Qatari PM Al Thani and Russian President Vladimir Putin with kid gloves – while being willing to go so far as to call a sitting Republican senator a “sleazy feline.” Putin famously insulted Carlson after their February 2024 interview, saying he was surprised Carlson didn’t ask any “tough questions.”
Carlson is a leading figure in the widening rift within the GOP between the more hawkish elements, like Cruz, and the rising isolationists like Carlson.
