CNN’s Van Jones trashed far-left Drop Site News’ report about him serving as a mentor “in a new journalism fellowship explicitly created to help Israel win its ‘information war.’”

In a tweet summarizing its story earlier this week, Drop Site claimed:

CNN’s Van Jones is among 16 mainstream journalists—including two New York Times reporters—serving as mentors in a new journalism fellowship explicitly created to help Israel win its “information war.”

Drop Site’s Sharif Abdel Kouddous reports that Jacki Karsh, who launched the fellowship after October 7, said it was her way to “shift the narrative” in Israel’s favor, citing a call to fight “on the battlegrounds of academia, law, business, media” as inspiration. Karsh has praised the IDF as “the most moral army in the world” and dismissed Gaza’s casualty figures. NYT mentors include former Jerusalem bureau chief Jodi Rudoren and Sharon Otterman, who covers campus protests.

The fellowship claims to be “resolutely nonpartisan” though its founder has never expressed sympathy for the tens of thousands of Palestinians killed—including 20,000 children—in what UN officials and a vast majority of genocide scholars characterize as genocide.

The story identified The Atlantic‘s Michael Powell, as well as Rudoren and Otterman as other mentors in the program.

But on Friday, Jones poured cold water over the report.

“FAKE NEWS ALERT: This story is totally bogus. I agreed to give a one-hour, one-time talk to a handful of journalists next year — for free,” wrote Jones in a quote-tweet. “I give more than 100 talks a year, covering all topics — speaking to people of all races, faiths and backgrounds. And I will continue to do so.”
