FBI top brass are reportedly considering perp-walking the bureau’s former director, James Comey.
Comey was indicted last week for perjury and obstruction over sworn testimony he gave to Congress in 2020. The indictment came after President Donald Trump fired Erik Siebert, the Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, for declining to prosecute Trump’s political foes, which included Comey. Siebert’s replacement, Lindsey Halligan, pressed forward with the case and secured an indictment that may very well be procedurally invalid, aside from the merits, which legal experts across the political spectrum have said are dubious.
On Friday night, CBS News reported that the FBI is considering a “showy” arrest of the 6’8″ Comey, complete with a perp walk by decked-out agents who are “large” and “beefy.”
[O]n the same day as his indictment, FBI leadership discussed hauling Comey in instead of waiting for the ex-FBI chief to report to court on his own, a source knowledgeable about the conversions told CBS News.
The source told CBS News that leadership asked for “large, beefy” agents to conduct an arrest of Comey “in full kit,” including Kevlar vests and exterior wear emblazoned with the FBI logo. It was suggested that Chris Ray, a supervisory special agent in the violent crimes division of the FBI’s Washington Field Office, would be able to put together the kinds of agents who fit the bill, the source said.
Citing a law enforcement source familiar with the situation, the report said the FBI is “actively working to put together a team to arrest Comey between now and his court appearance on Thursday, but other FBI supervisors have also refused to cooperate.”
The report did not mention FBI Director Kash Patel, and by extension, what, if any role Patel is playing in plans to arrest his predecessor.
Patel defended the Comey indictment last week and rejected claims that the prosecution was politically motivated.
“The wildly false accusations attacking this FBI for the politicization of law enforcement comes from the same bankrupt media that sold the world on Russia Gate- it’s hypocrisy on steroids,” he said.
