White House Deputy Press Secretary Abigail Jackson sparked a bevy of mockery over the weekend when she shared a graph from Axios highlighting the increase of left-wing violence this year, but that also showed the long-running trend of right-wing violence far outpacing all other types.

Jackson shared the Axios article and wrote, “Democrats, calling your political opponents Nazis has consequences. Study: Left-wing terrorism climbs to 30-year high.”

The Axios article began by noting, “Halfway through 2025, attacks by far-left extremists outpaced far-right violence for the first time in more than three decades, according to new research from the Center for Strategic & International Studies.” The report added:

Why it matters: America’s domestic terrorism landscape has undergone a remarkable inversion since President Trump took office, as his policies have eased grievances on the far right while intensifying anger on the far left.

Far-right violence has historically been more frequent and more lethal, but plunged dramatically over the first six months of 2025.

Critics were quick to blast Jackson on X. Independent journalist Arieh Kovler shared her post and noted, “The White House Deputy Press Secretary looked at this graph and thought ‘those grey bars are totally fine, everyone will understand that only the yellow ones are a problem.’”

Kovler added another tweet in response to Jackson, asking, “Has someone been doing that? Sounds bad.” He included quotes from JD Vance, Tim Pool, and Donald Trump Jr., calling their political opponents Nazis and fascists.

NPR’s Tom Dreisbach replied to Jackson, writing, “A DOJ official hired by President Trump called police on Jan. 6 ‘Nazi’ and ‘Gestapo’ and urged rioters to ‘kill’ cops.”

In Jackson’s defense, Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) also shared the graph and offered a similar take. “Unchecked extreme rhetoric, like labels as Hitler or fascist, will foment more extreme outcomes. Political violence is always wrong—no exceptions. We must all turn the temperature down,” he wrote.
