Jon Stewart and his team singled out CNN chief White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins as the one reporter who can truly throw President Donald Trump off balance, describing her as “the only one they aren’t quite sure what to do with.”
Speaking on his The Weekly Show podcast, the comedian was asked whether journalists should ever return fire when Trump hurls insults during press interactions.
“Oooh, like a rap battle?” Stewart quipped, before musing that political exchanges increasingly resemble staged confrontations.
Referencing Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi’s combative performance in a recent Senate hearing, Stewart said her readiness with cutting comebacks reflected where modern political theater is headed: “It’s certainly where it’s all going, isn’t it?”
But it was Collins, who is frequently present at White House press events and is one of CNN’s most prominent journalists, who earned Stewart’s admiration.
“I think Kaitlan Collins has it in her,” producer Brittany Mehmedovic said.
“Kaitlan Collins is the only one,” Stewart said, rolling with it. “I actually think she’s the only one they aren’t quite sure what to do with, because she’s always just matter-of-fact like, ‘Because you did say two and a half weeks ago, and I think I’ve got the quote right here.’”
Mocking the reaction from Trump’s allies, Stewart added: “They’re all like, ‘What are you doing, homework? Why are you trying to make us all look bad?”
“‘Is this witchcraft?’” Mehmedovic added, laughing.
Stewart continued: “‘You’re collecting facts? And then you’re going to say them back at me? Live? Unacceptable.’”
