Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem vowed on Saturday to “hunt down” protesters who attack federalized troops after recent dust-ups in Portland, OR, or Chicago, IL.
National Guard units and federalized active-duty military personnel have been deployed by the Trump administration to multiple U.S. cities, including Portland, OR; Chicago, IL; Washington, D.C.; and Los Angeles, CA.
The troops have ben met by protesters that have remained mostly non-violent.
The Department of Homeland Security X account posted a Saturday that “@Sec_Noem will hunt down EVERY deranged anarchist who attacks our law enforcement: ‘We’re going to prosecute them and bring them to justice—we’re not taking this anymore,’” she said.
In a video featuring Noem surrounded by heavily-armed ICE agents, she reiterated, “We’re going to go out there and we’re going to make sure there’s consequences for the way that they’re behaving. and then we’re going to prosecute them, we’re going to bring them to justice, and we’re not going to take this anymore.”
On Saturday, White House aide Stephen Miller called on the full power of the federal government to dismantle “leftwing terrorism,” saying it’s the only solution for the push-back coming at the Trump administration.
“The issue before is [sic] now is very simple and clear. There is a large and growing movement of leftwing terrorism in this country,” Miller posted.
“It is well organized and funded. And it is shielded by far-left Democrat judges, prosecutors and attorneys general. The only remedy is to use legitimate state power to dismantle terrorism and terror networks.”
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) said on Sunday that President Donald Trump is in the process of federalizing the Illinois National Guard.
“This morning, the Trump Administration’s Department of War gave me an ultimatum: call up your troops, or we will,” Pritzker wrote on Bluesky. “It is absolutely outrageous and un-American to demand a Governor send military troops within our own borders and against our will.”
