I am thrilled to announce that nine-year Mediaite veteran Joe DePaolo will be taking over as Executive Editor of Mediaite. Not only have I worked with Joe for almost a decade at Mediaite, he also served as a Senior Producer for my NewsNation show for its entire run from 2021-2025, where he regularly helped craft the show’s signature bipartisan editorials. For me, the question has never been will Joe take the top Mediaite job but when. That time is now as top editor Aidan McLaughlin is returning to the full-time reporting roots I know he has long missed — taking on an exciting new opportunity after an eight-year run with Mediaite.
Prior to Mediaite, Joe amassed scores of bylines for The New York Times and the Washington Post, as well as long form features for the Boston Globe Magazine, SB Nation, and many other top publications. His work has been recognized in The Best American Sports Writing anthology, and has garnered numerous awards from organizations including; the Society of Professional Journalists (NJ), and the Garden State Journalists Association.
As part of the transition, Founding Editor Colby Hall will take over hosting Mediaite’s Press Club Podcast, continue writing regular columns and also help lead the effort to build out Mediaite’s original video content and subscription products. Colby will also continue in his role as a NewsNation Media Contributor.
Finally, three-year Mediaite vet Isaac Schorr has been promoted to Senior Editor. Isaac, who came to Mediaite from National Review — and has won the prestigious Robert Novak Fellowship at The Fund for American Studies — has become a critical voice in helping to shape Mediaite coverage and this promotion will only make his input that much more impactful.
This all comes on the heels of the recent hire of Sean James as a writer (we will be making additional hiring announcements in the weeks and months to come).
In a world where it often seems that politics is media and media is politics, Mediaite has never been more relevant or stronger than it is today, and I am confident that this new leadership team will help take us to new heights and continue to earn the respect of all sides in this fractured time.
