On Monday night, the stars were out to celebrate the release of Mediaite’s Most Influential in Media 2025 — and some of the guests arrived in style, courtesy of General Motors.
The event was held at Danny’s NYC, Mediaite founder and owner Dan Abrams’ latest venture, an American wine bistro that opened earlier this year in the Flatiron district. The media industry’s top players, everyone from well-recognized on-air personalities, to the top independent media voices, to the network executives and movers-and-shakers behind the scenes mingled as they toasted the end of a remarkable year.
Several attendees were privileged to be invited to catch a ride in the new Cadillac Escalade IQ, the venerable automaker’s all-electric luxury SUV that just launched this year.
With an estimated 465-mile electric range, the Escalade IQ was built from the ground up on Cadillac’s proprietary electric vehicle architecture, and includes advanced technology including Super Cruise, Cadillac’s patented hands-free driver assistance, as a standard feature. Built-in Google compatibility, a 5G Wifi hotspot, and passenger entertainment screens add to the enjoyment of the ride for the driver and up to six passengers.
The 2026 Escalade IQ had the honor of being the first SUV assembled in Michigan to win MotorTrend’s SUV of the Year award — and a repeat win for the vehicle’s chief engineer, Al Oppenheiser.
Oppenheiser, who previously won Car of the Year for his work on the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, touted the Escalade IQ’s architecture as the key to its success.
“The architecture is everything,” Oppenheiser told GM News. “With a good architecture, you’re able to take the core things you learn from the very first version and keep improving it.”
The Escalade IQ was built on technology first developed for the Hummer EV, and adapted for the luxury SUV platform, Oppenheiser said, like the “CrabWalk” mode that was used to improve maneuverability in the Escalade IQ.
He also highlighted the way the vehicle’s roofline both improved aesthetics and its gentle slope improved aerodynamic efficiency, making that estimated 465-mile range possible. Other features like the narrow A-pillars improve visibility — and therefore safety.
