Mehdi Hasan, the former MSNBC host and founder of Zeteo, sparked a bevy of less-than-flattering replies this week after marveling at having retweeted Candace Owens, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), and former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).
“Today I have retweeted Candace Owens and MTG. And now I am retweeting Matt Gaetz. What’s happening to the world?” Hasan wrote on X, adding:
I plan to go home and take a very long shower.
Hasan made the comment while sharing a clip posted by Axios’s Marc Caputo. Caputo was reporting on a wild claim made by Gaetz, he noted, “Congressional members & candidates wore name badges with QR codes @AIPAC donors would scan to contribute if they liked the pol, per former Rep. Gaetz.” AIPAC denounced Gaetz’s claim as a “lie” and added, “Barcodes are on name badges for security reasons, not fundraising, and are scanned for that purpose.”
Owens, of course, has been stirring controversy for weeks with her commentary, including suggesting that Israel was somehow linked to the horrific murder of Charlie Kirk.
Many of Hasan’s critics were quick to argue that his post is an example of “horseshoe theory,” where the far-left and far-right eventually find common ground.
The Free Press’s Peter Savodnik replied to Hasan and wrote, “All the worst people have come together to celebrate their Jew hatred, which they now feel free to advertise and cash in on. That’s what’s happening.”
YouTuber Ashton Forbes replied, “Woke Right = Woke Left, 100% confirmed.”
