Rep. Nancy Mace’s (R-SC) former fiancé filed a lawsuit against her on Thursday, claiming that the congresswoman fabricated sexual assault allegations against him to blackmail him during their separation in 2023.
Patrick Bryant, Mace’s former partner, alleged that the allegations made against him by Mace and a “Jane Doe” in a May lawsuit were false.
The original lawsuit claimed that “Jane Doe” was assaulted by a man at a 2018 party in the home of Eric Bowman, and that Bowman and Bryant filmed the event. Mace publicly accused the men of the alleged crime in a lengthy floor speech in February.
Bryant’s suit alleged that Mace hacked Bryant’s phone and placed a tracker in his car during their relationship, suspecting him of cheating.
It also claimed that Mace told a political consultant she planned to use images from Bryant’s phone to gain leverage in the couple’s split and get ownership of the couple’s joint properties.
The suit, first reported by WCSC, goes on to allege that Doe was manipulated by Mace and Bowman’s estranged ex-wife into filing suit. The unnamed woman is named as a former employee of Bryant in the suit.
“What Mace did not tell Doe is that she concocted an entire false narrative of an assault, to blackmail Bryant, gain leverage in their separation proceedings, and try to ruin Bryant for her personal gain,” the suit reportedly claims.
According to WCSC:
Bryant claims he and other men never did anything to Doe in October 2018 after she fell into a pool at a party. Though Bowman’s estranged wife later claimed she witnessed the alleged assault on a home security system, she did not say anything to Doe that night, according to the suit.
Bryant alleges that Mace and Bowman’s wife met and conspired to frame and defraud him and two others, then set out to find a victim.
In her February floor speech, Mace claimed that she “accidentally uncovered…the premeditated, calculated exploitation of women and girls” within her district.
“I will burn this system to the ground if I have to. These men aren’t just criminals, they are predators,” she said.
Bryant is suing for defamation, writing on social media that Mace’s claims were “weaponized to serve personal and political vendettas.”
“For almost two years I’ve had to stay quiet while completely false accusations were spread about me,” wrote Bryant. “Claims that were created, repeated, and weaponized to serve personal and political vendettas. I have never assaulted or raped any woman.”
The congresswoman defended her claims on X, writing that she planned to release evidence to prove Bryant’s guilt.
“I will release evidence on Monday proving predator and alleged rapist Patrick Bryant from my floor speech is once again lying to the court in his frivolous complaint,” she wrote. “I just got him sanctioned last week for weaponizing the court against me and rape victim Jane Doe. I plan on doing it again in this case after we move to dismiss.”
Mace was referring to a recent court order that found that Bryant’s company and lawyer violated state law by issuing subpoenas and deposing people without court approval.
Mace’s office also referenced the order in her statement to Fox News.
“It’s almost as if Patrick Bryant is trying to write me another check. I just got him sanctioned in court. And rape victim Jane Doe and I are still waiting on him to pay our legal fees after he weaponized the court against us,” the statement read.
The congresswoman is currently involved in multiple legal battles, including one surrounding her reported verbal abuse of law enforcement officials at the Charleston Airport in late October.
Mace plans to sue American Airlines and the airport for allegedly fabricating an incident report that detailed the event.
