The elevation of bilateral relations between Vietnam and Bulgaria to the level of a strategic partnership provides broader opportunities to deepen cooperation in a number of areas of mutual interest. National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova said on Friday during a meeting with the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam. The guest is visiting Bulgaria at the invitation of President Rumen Radev.
Kiselova noted that Bulgaria and Vietnam share traditionally friendly relations, with diplomatic ties between the two countries dating back 75 years. She expressed satisfaction with the dynamic political dialogue and the broad sectoral cooperation between the two nations.
“A clear testament to our desire for joint partnership is the fact that the Bulgaria–Vietnam Friendship Group is one of the largest in the 51st National Assembly, and its members are committed to contributing to the development of our bilateral relations,” said Kiselova.
Following the signing of a Joint Declaration on the Establishment of a Strategic Partnership, new and broader opportunities are opening up before us for deepening cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, law enforcement, science, technology, and innovation, noted the Bulgarian Parliament Chair. “This will make it possible to take the next step in our long-standing and wide-ranging trade and economic relations, noted Natalia Kiselova. In recent years, trade turnover has been increasing, but there is still untapped potential,” she added.
She expressed satisfaction with the intensification of bilateral ties in the field of education in recent years, pointing out that this progress is due to the implementation of the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Education between Bulgaria and Vietnam for the period 2025–2028, as well as through European programmes such as Erasmus+.
Kiselova underlined that the Vietnamese community in Bulgaria is among the best integrated in the country and contributes greatly to mutual understanding and the strengthening of contacts between the two peoples. She highly praised the work of the friendship associations between Bulgaria and Vietnam, which provide significant assistance to the embassies in Sofia and Hanoi, especially in the area of cultural exchange.
The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam, expressed his gratitude to the Chair of the National Assembly and to the members of the Bulgaria–Vietnam Friendship Group in the Bulgarian Parliament for their warm welcome. “I am confident that my current visit to Bulgaria opens a new chapter in our bilateral relations, with new plans, determination, and ambition to make full use of existing opportunities,” he stressed.
Taking part in the meeting between the National Assembly Chair and the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam, were Rositsa Kirova (GERB-UDF), Chair of the Bulgaria-Vietnam Friendship Group, and the group’s deputy chairs Hamid Hamid (MRF-New Beginning) and Alexander Valchev (There Is Such a People).
