Balgarianovinite.com Maintaining the Taraclia district as an independent administrative-territorial unit of Moldova continues to be a central priority for Bulgaria, driven by the clearly stated expectations and will of the Bulgarian community in that country, said outgoing Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev in response to a question from Bulgarian MP Galin Durev (BSP–United Left). The response was published on the National Assembly website.
Durev asked whether the Foreign Ministry had any information regarding a potential revocation of Taraclia’s status as an independent administrative-territorial unit.
Georgiev replied that Bulgaria welcomes the repeated commitment of the Moldovan authorities, including at the highest political level, to preserve the Taraclia district as an independent administrative unit.
The political commitment to maintaining Taraclia was clearly reaffirmed during a meeting between the Bulgarian ambassador and Moldova’s newly appointed Prime Minister, Alexandru Munteanu, on November 24 in Chisinau. The Moldovan Prime Minister emphasized his government’s dedication to honouring all previously agreed arrangements on the matter and stated that there were no grounds for concern among the Bulgarian community, as there is no proposal on the government’s agenda to dissolve the district, the Foreign Minister explained.
At the meeting, Munteanu highlighted that the Bulgarian community represents an important part of Moldovan society, composed of hardworking people with enduring values and traditions, and that the country’s ethnocultural diversity enriches its overall development.
Georgiev said in his answer to Durev’s question that Bulgaria highly values the conditions, including the regulatory framework, established by the Moldovan authorities over recent years to preserve the national, cultural, and linguistic identity of the Bulgarian community in the country. Bulgaria considers that maintaining Taraclia as an administrative-territorial unit is a crucial factor in safeguarding its unique ethnocultural composition and strong Bulgarian identity in the future, the Foreign Minister added.
