The father of the man who carried out a terrifying attack on a Manchester synagogue on one of the Jewish calendar’s holiest days was found to have praised Oct. 7 Hamas fighters after they invaded Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.
Faraj Al-Shamie, who works as a trauma surgeon in Britain, released a statement on Facebook on Friday — a day after his son, Jihad Al-Shamie, rammed his car into pedestrians outside a synagogue in the Manchester suburb of Crumpsall before getting out and stabbing others:
The news from Manchester regarding the terrorist attack targeting a Jewish synagogue has been a profound shock to us. The Al-Shamie family in the UK and abroad strongly condemns this heinous act, which targeted peaceful, innocent civilians. We fully distance ourselves from this attack and express our deep shock and sorrow over what has happened. Our hearts and thoughts are with the victims and their families, and we pray for their strength and comfort. We kindly request that all media outlets respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time and refrain from using this tragic event in any context that does not reflect the truth. May God have mercy on the innocent victims, and we pray for the swift recovery of the injured.
But a deep dive into the elder Al-Shamie’s frequent social media posts by the Daily Telegraph uncovered disturbing statements about the Hamas militants behind the horrific Oct. 7 terror strike that left nearly 1,200 people dead, including 38 children.
“The scenes broadcast by the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades of a group of fighters storming an occupation army camp with simple means – balloons and motorcycles – prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Israel will not remain,” he said in a post written the day of the attack in Arabic but translated into English by the Telegraph.
In another, he said: “Where is this so-called resistance with the Haifa rockets… May God’s curse be upon the hypocrites, the traitors pledged to a disgusting and filthy sectarian agenda – the moment of truth is inevitably coming.”

It also emerged Friday that the younger Al-Shamie was out on bail for sexual assault when he committed the synagogue atrocity, according to the Times of Israel.
Jihad Al-Shamie was shot dead by police officers outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall after the attack that left two dead on Thursday.
Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, both Jewish Crumpsall residents, were identified as the two deceased victims, police told the Associated Press.
Three others were hospitalized in serious condition.
