The Bulgarian town of Sliven and the Serbian town of Nis signed a cooperation and twinning agreement on Saturday. The ceremony took place at Sliven Town Hall in the presence of delegates from the twin towns of Gera (Germany), Alba Iulia (Romania), Pecs (Hungary), and Taraclia (Moldova), who are visiting for Sliven’s holiday, Dimitrovden (St Dimitar’s Day, October 26), the local administration reported.
The agreement establishes cooperation between Sliven and Nis aimed at strengthening economic, cultural, educational, and tourism ties, as well as supporting the process of European integration, particularly through the exchange of experience with a local government unit from an EU member state.
The guests were welcomed by Sliven’s Mayor Stefan Radev and Municipal Council Chair Dimitar Mitev.
For his part, Nis Deputy Mayor Boban Mancev said the agreement was “an expression of mutual trust, a desire for joint progress, and a conviction that through cooperation we can do more for our citizens.” Mancev added: “We are connected by a shared history, common values and a vision for Europe built on the principles of solidarity and friendship.”
