The Tennessee Titans completed an improbable comeback against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday thanks to a pair of utterly bizarre plays.

In the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game, the Titans were down 21-6 with about 13 minutes left to play. During a Cardinals possession at the time, it appeared as though the game would soon be out of reach when running back Emari Demercado broke free for a 72-yard rushing touchdown.

There was just one problem: it wasn’t a touchdown. As Demercado was crossing the goal line, he dropped the ball and began his celebration. Additional angle of the play revealed that he actually let go of the ball right before crossing the line. The ball then bounced out of bounds, meaning it was fumbled for a touchback. The Titans were given the ball at the 20-yard line, wiping away the would-be nail in the coffin.

Later in the quarter, the Titans cut into the lead and trailed 21-12. With about five minutes left, Titans rookie quarterback Cam Ward attempted to drive the offense down the field for another score. During a play that started at the Cardinals’ 20-yard line, Ward threw an interception to safety Dadrion Taylor-Demerson.

As Taylor-Demerson was rolling on the ground after making the leaping grab, he fumbled the ball. Another Cardinals player unintentionally kicked the ball in the end zone; and, suddenly, the Titans found themselves on top of it for a touchdown.

The Titans eventually won the game 22-21.
