Comedian and podcaster Theo Von torched President Donald Trump’s administration for hijacking his words without permission for a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) deportation video, which used a clip of him recorded by a fan.
The government video begins with a clip of Von saying, “Heard you got deported, dude. Bye,” over statistics boasting of 2 million deportations in just 250 days.
The montage then cut to Trump’s address at the UN General Assembly, where the former president declared: “They simply stopped coming, they’re not coming anymore.”
The original video of Von was recorded when a fan told the comedian that her friend got deported and asked him to record a message.
Von was unimpressed with the clip being used in the new context.
Writing on X early Wednesday, he fired back: “Yooo DHS I didn’t approve to be used in this. I know you know my address so send a check.”
He continued: “And please take this down and please keep me out of your ‘banger’ deportation videos. When it comes to immigration my thoughts and heart are alot more nuanced than this video allows. Bye!”
The DHS video came a day after it posted a similar meme video set to the Pokémon theme.
Von had previously interviewed Trump on his podcast This Past Weekend before the 2024 election, drawing more than 17 million views, and even attended Trump’s inauguration alongside other online personalities courted by the campaign.
