President Donald Trump agreed to release some long-secret files in a weird Friday night news dump, but not the so-called Epstein Files so many are clamoring for.
While media interest in the Epstein Files story has dropped off from the early summer peak, the Jeffrey Epstein saga had a symbolic revival this week. A mysterious group called “Secret Handshake” installed a statue on the National Mall depicting Trump and Epstein holding hands and skipping. The statue was taken down by federal Park Police because they claimed it did not comply with the permit.
The House Oversight Committee also released a new round of Epstein-related documents Friday morning.
But it was a different set of files that Trump said he would entertain releasing in a Truth Social post Friday afternoon — a note that included an oddly chirpy reference to Amelia Earhart’s “last, fatal flight!”
Trump wrote:
I have been asked by many people about the life and times of Amelia Earhart, such an interesting story, and would I consider declassifying and releasing everything about her, in particular, her last, fatal flight! She was an Aviation Pioneer, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, and achieved many other Aviation “firsts.” She disappeared in the South Pacific while trying to become the first woman to fly around the World. Amelia made it almost three quarters around the World before she suddenly, and without notice, vanished, never to be seen again. Her disappearance, almost 90 years ago, has captivated millions. I am ordering my Administration to declassify and release all Government Records related to Amelia Earhart, her final trip, and everything else about her. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

The famed aviator is the subject of a 59-page FBI file that is currently available online, but time will tell what revelations await.
