President Donald Trump shared a message from CNN’s Scott Jennings on Saturday telling critics of the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey to “choke on it.”
Trump posted a clip Jennings shared to X from his Salem Radio Network show where the CNN senior political analyst dismissed critics chalking up Comey’s indictment to pressure from the president for officials to target his political enemies.
“When ex-FBI Director James Comey was indicted, the weeping and gnashing of teeth from the ‘nobody is above the law crowd’ could be heard around the world,” Jennings wrote on X. “Spare me your outrage about ‘political prosecutions.’ No, this is not ‘unprecedented.’ Choke on it.”
Comey was indicted on charges of making false statements to Congress and obstruction of a congressional proceeding, all related to whether he authorized a leak about Hillary Clinton and an investigation into the Clinton Foundation. A defiant Comey said he plans on fighting the charges in court.
“My heart is broken for the Department of Justice, but I have great confidence in the federal judicial system and I’m innocent,” Comey said. “So let’s have a trial and keep the faith.”
Jennings has denied a direct connection between Trump and the indictment despite critics pointing to Trump publicly pressuring Attorney General Pam Bondi to go after a number of political enemies. Jennings argued that the charges going through a grand jury process means Trump could only have so much influence.
