President Donald Trump warned Hamas to begin releasing Israeli hostages “FAST” or “all bets will be off” in a Truth Social post Saturday praising Israel for having paused “bombing” as the tentative peace deal edges forward.
In a rapid overnight development Hamas signalled a conditional “yes” to Trump’s terms on releasing hostages and floated the prospect of ceding Gaza’s administration, but offered no firm reply to several other aspects of the president’s of his 20-point framework to end the war.
Trump said it was a “very special day” in a video posted to social media soon after the Hamas statement was issued and with that signal the president ordered Israel to “immediately” stop bombing Gaza on Friday.
On Saturday morning, taking to Truth Social, the president praised Israel for complying with that request and urged Hamas to “move quickly”:
I appreciate that Israel has temporarily stopped the bombing in order to give the Hostage release and Peace Deal a chance to be completed. Hamas must move quickly, or else all bets will be off. I will not tolerate delay, which many think will happen, or any outcome where Gaza poses a threat again. Let’s get this done, FAST. Everyone will be treated fairly!

The statement came as Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and senior envoy Steve Witkoff travelled to Cairo to hammer out the terms of a hostage release.
The deal marks the first real pause in two years of war. Each previous ceasefire collapsed. Gaza’s Hamas-run civil defence agency said on Saturday that, after Trump’s appeal, Israel had carried out several air strikes and engaged in artillery shelling on Gaza City.
While the timeline around Trump’s plan remains opaque, and some key issues unresolved, the president is pushing the deal ahead in hope that his deal will hold.
