Conservatives are in revolt over the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of an abortion drug.
The FDA, which is under the purview of the Department of Health and Human Services and Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has approved the generic version of mifepristone, a controversial, but popular abortion drug.
Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) was among those to take notice of the news.
“This is shocking. FDA has just approved ANOTHER chemical abortion drug, when the evidence shows chemical abortion drugs are dangerous and even deadly for the mother. And of course 100% lethal to the child,” wrote Hawley on X Thursday. “FDA had promised to do a top-to-bottom safety review of the chemical abortion drug, but instead they’ve just greenlighted new versions of it for distribution. I have lost confidence in the leadership at FDA.”
“Get this: the corporation the FDA just approved to distribute MORE abortion drugs doesn’t even believe there is such a thing as a ‘woman.’ From their website: ‘Evita Solutions believes that *all people* should have access to safe, affordable, high-quality, effective, and compassionate abortion care, regardless of their race, sex, *gender, age, sexuality, income, or where they live,’” he later added.
“UNACCEPTABLE: The FDA just approved another generic of the abortion pill mifepristone. This drug starves babies and harms mothers!” argued pro-life activist Lila Rose. “The FDA just said it would do a new serious safety study—so why approve a another generic now? @RobertKennedyJr must reverse this decision!”
“Just a reminder that the FDA, unlike, say, the FCC or the FTC, is not structured as a so-called ‘independent’ agency. The FDA is indisputably part of the executive branch and is under the direct control of the president,” mused conservative legal expert Ed Whelan.
“We should not be shocked that the cabinet office presided over by a man who probably paid for more abortions than all other cabinet officers in all of American history combined has done something like this,” opined radio host Erick Erickson.
Kennedy has long been a full-throated pro-choice advocate, though that had seemingly changed after he dropped his own presidential bid and endorsed Trump last year.
