Balgarianovinite.com The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) has issued a warning for strong and stormy winds for Sunday, December 28. Yellow and orange weather alerts will be in effect, the institute announced on its website.
A second-level orange code alert for strong to stormy north-westerly winds has been issued for 12 regions of the country, with wind gusts expected to reach between 25 and 30 m/s. In the rest of Bulgaria, a first-level yellow code alert is in force, with gusts of up to 24 m/s.
An orange code has been issued for the regions of Vidin, Vratsa, Pleven, Veliko Tarnovo, Lovech, Sliven, Gabrovo, Sofia, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Blagoevgrad and Montana.
The orange code weather alert for strong winds warns people that they should be prepared for significant disruptions, including structural damage, uprooted trees and an increased risk of injuries caused by flying objects. Power supply disruptions are also possible, NIMH warned. Under a yellow code, people are advised to remain cautious of airborne objects, as local disruptions to normal outdoor activities may occur.
According to the weather forecast, Sunday will see strong to stormy winds from the west-northwest, bringing an influx of cold air. Cloud cover will be variable, with light snowfall possible only in isolated areas, mainly in Northeastern Bulgaria. Maximum temperatures before noon will range between 2C and 7C, with around 3C expected in Sofia.
