New York City mayoral favorite Zohran Mamdani (D) bashed both the cops and Israel in a wild, conspiratorial clip unearthed on X.
In the video, which was first shared by @mazemoore and is allegedly from a September 2023 event, Mamdani mused that, “The importance for me of international solidarity is that it takes me out of the American political landscape that reminds me just how tame some of the things are that I’m actually calling for. And it reminds me of the necessity of grounding ourselves in the struggles as opposed to the fights around the struggles.”
“For anyone to care about these issues, we have to make them [inaudible],” he continued. “We have to make clear that when the boot of the NYPD is on your neck, it’s been laced by the IDF.”
“We are in a country where those connections abound. Especially in New York City, you have so many opportunities to make clear the ways in which that struggle over there is tied to capitalist interests over here,” added Mamdani.
Mamdani’s attitudes toward law enforcement and Israel have been the subject of much controversy during his campaign.
A past supporter of the Defund the Police movement, Mamdani tweeted “Nature is healing” in response to a 2020 post about a cop crying in a car.
He has also raised eyebrows over his reluctance to explicitly condemn Hamas, the terrorist group responsible for the October 7 attack on civilians in southern Israel, which has stood in stark contrast to his promise to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should he visit the Big Apple on Mamdani’s watch.
Mamdani has also taken heat for both the initial statement he released about October 7 and the one he released on the two-year anniversary of the day’s events, both of which, critics alleged minimized Hamas’ actions and were mostly focused on condemning Israel.
