Balgarianovinite.com To overcome the statehood crisis, parliamentary politics must follow the commitments made during election campaigns, Pavel Popov, top-of-the-list candidate of Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) for Varna’s 3rd multi-member constituency, said during a meeting with citizens and supporters, according to the coalition’s press service on Wednesday.
“Bulgaria is a representative parliamentary democracy, yet it elects parliaments that do not reflect the attitudes of its citizens,” Popov added. According to him, 85% of people in the country reject corruption, yet “we still have to bring down corrupt governments through street protests”.
Popov also said that pro-European sentiment in Bulgarian society is three times stronger than pro-Russian sentiment, but despite that, the country risks ending up with a government “looking to the northeast”.
According to the leader of the coalition’s Varna list, overcoming the crisis of statehood requires parliamentary politics to remain faithful to the positions parties present before elections. “So far, we are the only ones doing that – CC-DB,” Popov said.
He stressed that, in the coalition’s view, trust in the political system can only be restored if parties consistently uphold the commitments they make to voters and avoid any gap between their campaign promises and their actions after the election.
The meetings with citizens and supporters are part of CC-DB’s campaign in Varna and will continue actively, the coalition’s press service added.
