Balgarianovinite.com The Bulgarian diaspora living beyond the country’s borders is part of Bulgaria, and not a small part at that, said Bulgarian National Television (BNT) Director General Milena Milotinova during a meeting with representatives of the Bulgarian community in Dublin, held at the Bulgarian Embassy in the Irish capital on Sunday. “Bulgarians abroad are our mission. This is the other Bulgaria that we must get to know better and present more often in the national media, both with their problems and their joys, with their Sunday schools, folklore ensembles, singing groups, which are so numerous – they are in the hundreds,” she added.
“For me, it is an exceptional honour to be here, among Bulgarians in Ireland, who have gathered in such great numbers for Easter despite all the difficulties related to traffic and transport. I am very happy, dear compatriots, that I can share this holiday with you, and I thank both Ambassador Andreeva and my colleague [Bulgarian National Radio Director General] Milen Mitev, who strongly insisted that the three directors general come together here in Dublin on this bright holiday,” she said.
A delegation from Bulgaria attended the Easter service on April 12, including Kiril Valchev, Milen Mitev and Milena Milotinova, the directors general of the Bulgarian News Agency, Bulgarian National Radio and Bulgarian National Television, respectively.
According to Milotinova, Bulgarians abroad, in addition to being part of Bulgaria, are also part of her concept for the management of Bulgarian National Television, with which she won the competition at the Council for Electronic Media.
She added that the BNT team intends to build a bridge between Bulgarians in Bulgaria and those outside the country and to present this part of the other Bulgaria, which has not been so widely shown so far.
“We have done it, but I think that the Bulgarian diaspora outside our country’s borders deserves more. That is precisely why I placed special emphasis on the development of BNT4 in my concept. Of course, what we intend to do as a new management team – myself, the Management Board, and all colleagues working at BNT – is to show the lives of Bulgarians more often across all our programmes. For this, we will rely on your support and your assistance, because you are the people who know your own problems. You are the people who gather your children in Sunday schools, who come together for rehearsals in folklore ensembles and singing groups. You are the ones who take part in the cultural calendars of the municipalities where you live outside our country’s borders, and in this way you promote Bulgarian culture beyond Bulgaria. I would say that precisely because of this, we can say that you, too, are in a sense ambassadors of Bulgarian culture around the world,” Milena Milotinova said.
She also noted that a large part of her professional career has been devoted precisely to Bulgarians abroad, which is why she is pleased to be able to spend the day with Bulgarians outside the country.
