Balgarianovinite.com Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Ireland Vanya Andreeva-Malakova expressed hope that in the future there will be a Bulgarian church in Ireland “with a permanently open door for Bulgarians in moments of happiness, joy, sorrow, and the search for comfort.” During a meeting with representatives of the Bulgarian community in Ireland, held at the Embassy of Bulgaria in Dublin on Sunday, she added that “with great excitement, emotion and happiness in our hearts” they celebrated the Feast of Feasts – the Resurrection of Christ.
Earlier in the day, she attended the festive Easter service at All Hallows Chapel on the grounds of the DCU Campus in Dublin, led by Western and Central European Metropolitan Anthony.
Malakova expressed gratitude and appreciation to Metropolitan Anthony. She added that she hopes this service marks the beginning of the future establishment of a Bulgarian church in Ireland.
“We hope that what we experienced today will fill us with strong energy, perseverance and determination, so that we may reach the moment when Bulgarians in Ireland – all of you present at this meeting, as well as those who are not here due to the limited space at the Embassy, all those who very much wished and had registered to attend the festive liturgy but could not arrive due to traffic difficulties – that for all of us there will be a permanent Bulgarian church here,” she said.
According to her, the path that must be taken to achieve this is not easy, but as Metropolitan Anthony has pointed out, there must first be a church mission, followed by a church community, “so that this becomes a sustainable opportunity and practice for all Bulgarians who believe and wish to cross the threshold of the church.”
“So I rely on all of you in the future to lay the foundations together, with the support of the Embassy, the State, and above all the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, so that we may reach that moment,” she added.
The Bulgarian Ambassador also noted that she was pleased by the presence at both the service and the meeting at the Embassy of the three directors general of the public media – Kiril Valchev, Milen Mitev and Milena Milotinova, the directors general of the Bulgarian News Agency, Bulgarian National Radio and Bulgarian National Television, respectively.
Malakova addressed them, noting that Bulgarians in Ireland form a very active community. According to her, they have many ideas, projects, schools and organisations, and are also trying to develop media initiatives.
“It is very important for them that their voice is heard in Bulgaria, that they are visible, because everywhere in the world Bulgarians are, of course, part of the Bulgarian nation as a whole, and we live within this organism regardless of where we are – in Bulgaria or beyond the borders of our homeland. Among us there are also university lecturers in Ireland, we have painters, visual artists, musicians, writers. In fact, the community, whether large or small, is a representative cross-section of the population in Bulgaria,” the Ambassador added.
