Balgarianovinite.com The election day in Australia, Asia, Africa, and Europe has ended in Bulgaria’s snap parliamentary elections, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
In Turkey, where 27 polling stations were opened, and in Greece — 26 (including in resort towns in Northern Greece and on the islands) — voting ended at 8 pm Bulgarian time in most sections. In Germany, Bulgarian citizens voted in 70 polling stations, in Spain in 67, in Italy in 27, in the Netherlands in 24, in France in 19, as well as in Belgium and Austria in 17 each. There, election day ended in almost all polling stations at 9 pm Bulgarian time.
At 10 pm Bulgarian time, voting also ended in most polling stations in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, where 28 polling stations had been opened.
For seven polling stations in Turkey, five in different areas of London, and several stations in Spain, Germany, and Norway, election day was extended in accordance with instructions from the Central Election Commission (CEC) and the provisions of the Election Code. In only a few of them were not all voters able to cast their ballots by the deadline set in the Election Code — 9 pm local time.
Earlier in the day, voting also ended in Australia, Asia, and Africa.
Due to time differences, the latest polling stations abroad to close will be in the US states of California, Arizona, and Nevada, as well as in the Canadian city of Vancouver — at 6 am Bulgarian time on Monday, April 20, 2026.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it had created the necessary organization for the election day abroad to proceed smoothly. The established election headquarters maintains constant contact with diplomatic and consular missions, polling station commissions abroad, and the CEC.
