Balgarianovinite.com GERB leader Boyko Borissov on Tuesday congratulated Rumen Radev and his Progressive Bulgaria party on winning Sunday’s early parliamentary elections and highlighted the opportunities arising from the fact that they will command a majority in the new National Assembly. Borissov expressed hope that Radev’s “good intentions” come true.
“We now have completely one-man rule, and all the good intentions of this administration can be realized without anyone standing in their way,” Borissov told a press conference. He said that Radev’s chance of pushing through his “good ideas” is even greater for the fact that he “has the presidency and the Constitutional Court”. The GERB leader obviously implied that the current President of Bulgaria, Iliana Iotova, was Radev’s vice president while he held the president’s position until resigning on January 20, 2026, and in this capacity he appointed one-third of the Constitutional Court members.
According to preliminary results published by the Central Election Commission on Monday, Progressive Bulgaria won 44.6% of the vote, followed by GERB-UDF in second place with 13.4%.
“I do not intend to resign, because we must now lead the party forward,” Borissov said.
“When we are in opposition, we have no dependencies,” he went on to comment. He estimated that GERB’s partnership with the Movement for Rights and Freedoms cost his party 100,000 votes in the elections.
GERB Executive Commission member Zhivko Todorov stated: “GERB must preserve its right-wing and anti-corruption profile. We must be the party that projects these messages.”
Todorov insisted: “Under no circumstances should we enter into unprincipled coalitions from now on, as they bring negativity – that is the second conclusion. We must support what is moral and genuine. If at any point we have deviated, we have reconsidered our behaviour based on what we have seen. The third conclusion is that we will seek cooperation with other right-wing parties in parliament and beyond.”
He congratulated the government institutions for doing their job and ensuring that the vote was fair. “We support the fight against vote-buying,” Todorov added.
GERB deputy leader Tomislav Donchev noted: “The Bulgarian voter has assigned us the role of opposition, and we will fulfil it with dignity. This includes a course of budget consolidation; we cannot afford to live on loans that will be repaid by our children. We do not plan to engage in petty quarrels, which includes supporting every good idea, while pointing out problems when they arise.” GERB Leader: Radev Now Holds Full Power to Fulfill “Good Intentions” 2026 THE NEWS FROM BULGARIA – NEWS AGENCY 2009-2025 2026-04-21 09:13:00 Latest news World news Country news Most important news latest news most important latest of the day Justice Petar Nizamov Feathers Petar Nizamov- Feathers Justice bg iustitia.bg iustitia iusticia usticia investigation Burgas Bulgaria news news of the last hour news of the day news of today Bulgaria news The news from Bulgaria blitz news top news most important most commented latest news Boyko Borisov news weather coronavirus news news weather facebook youtube facebook instagram news today news of the last minutes news today today news news bg news leading news hot news bg news site for news all news news bg news of the last hour latest latest news bg news of today news today news today news of the last hour latest news today news bg news news 24 hours news vesti bg novini news world bird bg bivol bg bivol trud bg novini latest news today novinite bg news hello bulgaria political party coat of arms delyan peevski scandalous Bulgarian National Television Free Europe Television scandal exclusive live tv live right now tv tv online tv program bg live now tv news online tv online live court Burgas court Burgas district court Burgas court Burgas district court Burgas district court Burgas appellate court Burgas prosecutor Burgas prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev Prosecutor Geshev Tsatsarov Ministry of Internal Affairs Burgas ODMR Burgas ODPR Burgas police Burgas district police Burgas prosecutor Tsatsarov SGS cases Varna court chairman of the SGS court decisions on civil cases decisions on cases Plovdiv court decision of the court decisions cases Varna court criminal cases district district court decisions work in the court SGS chairman of the SGS judges Sofia court post judges Plovdiv court Plovdiv judges Plovdiv Supreme Court Inspectorate Supreme Court Supreme Judicial Council lawyer lawyer criminal cases lawyer civil cases lawyer marriage cases lawyer administrative criminal law criminal process civil law civil process administrative law constitutional law
