Balgarianovinite.com In a video message posted on his Facebook page on Friday, caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov said that he and the entire caretaker government stand firmly behind Georgi Kandev, the Interior Ministry’s acting Secretary General. “Every honest Bulgarian citizen will stand behind him as well,” Gurov added.
Gurov’s statement comes shortly after Kandev said in a video message on Facebook that he had been pressured to step down by having people, including a person nicknamed “Kartofa” [The Potato], give false testimony against him at the Sofia City Prosecution Office.
In Gurov’s words, a “shameful attempt at revanchism” is at hand. “After we put a stop to the attacks on democracy and seized millions of euro being used to undermine the elections, a conspiracy against the Secretary General has been set in motion,” the Prime Minister noted.
Gurov said he has been informed that a former police chief and a businessman nicknamed “Kartofa” are involved in this conspiracy. “This is revenge. It is also a warning to people who are ready to work courageously and within the law,” the Prime Minister commented.
“The vendetta is taking place at the Sofia City Prosecution Office under prosecutor Emiliya Rusinova – a companion of Petyo ‘The Euro’ Petrov and the ruler of parliamentary immunities, the prosecutor of the caretaker government,” Gurov said. “Let me make this clear to all the ‘dwarfs’ who are regrouping, to the ‘vegetables’ who can be activated, and to all the politicians who are worried that Kandev will remain at the Interior Ministry: we see you. And all of Bulgaria sees you. We are not afraid. We outnumber you,” he added.
Petrov, a former investigating magistrate, is a notorious power broker in a criminal network for influencing the Bulgarian judiciary known as “The Eight Dwarfs” and currently a fugitive from justice. On March 30, caretaker Interior Minister Emil Dechev told the media that in 2021 Rusinova shared a car ride with Petrov to North Macedonia. According to information received at the Interior Ministry, Rusinova crossed the border repeatedly and was accompanied on these trips by four or five individuals who at times included Petrov.
