Balgarianovinite.com Turkish security forces have detained a total of 198 people in operations targeting sixteen different criminal groups across 16 provinces in Turkey, according to the state broadcaster TRT Haber. The operations were carried out in the cities of Erzurum, Sakarya, Aydın, Kayseri, Adana, Mugla, Eskisehir, Bitlis, Kahramanmaras, Manisa, Balıkesir, Tunceli, Tekirdag, Sinop, Giresun, and Agrı.
The operations were conducted in coordination with anti-smuggling and organized crime units under the Gendarmerie General Command and the Cybercrime Department, in cooperation with chief public prosecutors and the Financial Crimes Investigation Board, according to a statement by the Ministry of Interior, cited by the broadcaster.
A total of 198 suspects were detained for alleged involvement in various crimes.
By court order, 105 of them have been placed in pre-trial detention, while another 75 have been released under judicial supervision pending trial.
As a result of technical and physical surveillance, security forces determined that some of the groups had defrauded numerous citizens in Erzurum, Sakarya, Aydın, Kayseri, and Giresun by offering “investment consulting” through social media. Others allegedly attempted to obtain illegal financial gains from businesspeople and companies in Adana and Mugla through coercion and threats.
Several groups organized illegal drug trafficking from the provinces of Kahramanmaras and Agrı in eastern Turkey to Tekirdag in the west.
Criminal groups in the Black Sea region, particularly in Sinop, operated illegal betting websites and facilitated money transfers.
Groups active in Tunceli were involved in forging official documents.
In Manisa, they engaged in arms smuggling, while in Balıkesir, Eskisehir, and Bitlis they practiced illegal money lending, imposing high interest rates.
By court order, more than 1,000 bank accounts were frozen, and 24 properties and 16 vehicles were confiscated. During searches of the suspects’ addresses, authorities seized numerous digital materials, documents, various sums of cash, and narcotic substances, the statement said.
