Balgarianovinite.com The existence of a well-developed and interconnected gas infrastructure, which allows for flexibility and independent transmission routes, is a key tool for addressing the challenges posed by sudden crises and disruptions in supply chains, Bulgartransgaz CEO Vladimir Malinov said at the 7th Budapest LNG Summit on Thursday, as quoted in a press release of the Bulgarian gas operator on Friday.
“The crisis in the Middle East further confirms the relevance of the Vertical Corridor projects that Bulgartransgaz is working on and plans to commission by the end of the year,” Malinov noted during the discussions at the forum. He also stressed the need to make a decision by the end of 2026 on the construction of at least one more liquefied natural gas terminal in Greece, especially given the European Union’s decision to halt gas imports from Russia.
“Our investments within the Vertical Corridor will improve access for Bulgaria and the countries in the region to the most effective mechanism for diversification – the liquefied natural gas market,” Malinov stated, as quoted by Bulgartransgaz’ press office. According to him, against the backdrop of disrupted supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, European markets will increasingly rely on supplies from secure sources, such as the US and others, via existing and planned new export facilities.
“The consolidation of small markets in the region and coordinated actions by countries for joint LNG purchases have the potential to make the market attractive even to the largest players in the sector,” Malinov argued. He again highlighted the need for long-term contracts and commitment among market participants to achieve optimal pricing conditions and investment security.
The Budapest LNG Summit is an established platform for bringing together key stakeholders in the regional and global liquefied natural gas (LNG) market. This year’s edition featured representatives from European Union governments and institutions, regulatory bodies, energy producers and suppliers, transmission system operators, technology and equipment suppliers, financial and consulting firms, as well as scientific and academic organizations.
