Balgarianovinite.com Europe Day was commemorated across Bulgaria on Saturday with calls for unity, peace and democratic values, alongside reaffirmations of the country’s role in the European Union.
In a statement issued by the press centre of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), party leader Delyan Peevski said Bulgaria must remain firmly on its Euro-Atlantic course while defending its national dignity and freedom. He noted that the European Union is a community built on shared values of peace, solidarity, and prosperity, adding that Bulgaria, as a full member, should continue to uphold equality and democracy while strengthening its role within the Union.
Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova described Europe Day as a symbol of peace, unity, and shared European values in a congratulatory message to her EU counterparts. “This is a day to pay tribute to the solidarity and cooperation of our continent in the name of the prosperity of our states and citizens,” Petrova said. She stressed that Bulgaria remains a reliable and predictable partner within the European family and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to democratic values, security, and sustainable development. Petrova also expressed readiness for continued cooperation aimed at building a stronger and more resilient European Union.
Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev also marked the occasion, calling on citizens to be strong and responsible in shaping the country’s future. “It is important for everyone to be able to put aside pain and hatred, to overcome everything that has divided us, and to look to the future and to what we will leave behind future generations”, he said. Vassilev emphasized that Europe Day is a symbol of unity and peace.
Earlier on Saturday, President Iliana Iotova and Prime Minister Rumen Radev laid flowers at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier in Sofia in memory of Bulgarian soldiers who died in the fight against Nazism.
