Balgarianovinite.com A parade and folk dance performances opened the day on which Veliko Tarnovo is set to welcome riders from the Giro d’Italia. The procession featured musicians from the Junior Band at Emiliyan Stanev Secondary School and local folklore ensembles, who marched through the main streets of the old capital.
Despite the rain, preparations continued throughout the city for the cyclists’ arrival and the accompanying programme. Riders will enter Veliko Tarnovo from the eastern entrance and pass along Teodosiy Tarnovski, Dimitar Naydenov and Slivnitsa streets before circling the Tsarevets Fortress, Mini Bulgaria Park and the medieval churches of Sts. Peter and Paul, St. John of Rila and Holy Forty Martyrs.
The final section of the route includes Nikola Pikolo, Stefan Stambolov and Nezavisimost streets, with the finish line on Vasil Levski Boulevard between the municipality building and the theatre. The award ceremony will take place in front of the monument to Vasil Levski. Cyclists are expected to arrive around 5:00 p.m., with the city route estimated to take about 10 minutes. The pink jersey will be presented personally by Mayor Daniel Panov, the municipal press office said.
A large screen near the Asenevtsi Monument is broadcasting the Burgas-Veliko Tarnovo stage live, alongside a cycling trainer party with prizes. The programme also includes the children’s cycling race Giro d’Tsarevets, an amateur cycling tour organized by TarnovoRuns and an evening concert featuring performers Torino and Pashata.
Saturday’s stage is considered the most demanding of the three Bulgarian stages of the Giro d’Italia and will also pass through the municipalities of Elena and Lyaskovets.
