Balgarianovinite.com The flag of the European Union was ceremonially raised in Odesa on Saturday on the occasion of Europe Day.
The ceremony was attended by regional and city officials, representatives of the armed forces, veterans and residents of Odesa. Among the honorary guests were members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Odesa, including Bulgaria’s Consul General Svetoslav Ivanov.
Odesa acting Mayor Ihor Koval said that since its foundation, Odesa has been a city open to Europe. “Today these historical ties are acquiring new meaning – we particularly feel the support of our European partners and the value of unity,” he said.
Bulgaria’s Consul General Ivanov said that the diplomatic corps had received an invitation from acting Koval to mark Europe Day, adding that the presence of diplomats was a sign of support for Odesa and Ukraine. He expressed hope that solidarity and empathy with the people living in the city will be demonstrated both at local and central level, while reaffirming support for Ukraine in the war against Russia. Ivanov also voiced hope that, through the joint efforts of the international community, the war will end soon and the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine will begin.
The event continued with the opening of the exhibition “Ukraine – Part of the European Family” at Odesa City Council, where attendees joined in creating a collective artwork symbolizing Odesa’s European identity and Ukraine’s aspirations toward Europe.
