Balgarianovinite.com Gaida Folk Dance Club from Frankfurt am Main, Germany, will participate in the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival, which will take place in Munich from May 15 to 17.
“This year we chose to present the dance Breеze from Pirin. We were guided by the desire to show the beautiful contrast between the grace of the women and the strength of the men from the Pirin region. The storyline takes us to the village square, the place of gatherings and dance competitions, where the dancers demonstrate masculinity and courage under the admiring gaze of the women. They, in turn, appear with captivating elegance and finesse. The finale is highly energetic and filled with excitement and togetherness,” Irina Uvarova from the management of the Gaida club told BTA.
According to her, it is an honour that the choreography of Breеze from Pirin was created by Miroslav Dimitrov.
“His style uniquely conveys both the authenticity of folklore and the emotional depth of the characters we present on stage,” she said.
She noted that the club’s preparations have been “very intensive, because the dancers want through the solo performances and the joint dance of men and women to convey every detail of the storyline and the emotion of a time when just one glance and one gentle touch carried the message of love”.
“For the dancers who will step on stage, every rehearsal is an opportunity to improve not only the steps, but also our interaction with one another. In recent weeks we have focused on the details – synchronization of movements, artistry and, of course, the authenticity of the costumes,” Uvarova added.
She explained that Gaida Folk Dance Club was founded in 2015 by a group of enthusiasts united by the desire to preserve Bulgarian traditions in Frankfurt.
“Over the past decade we have come a long way, from a small group of friends to a large and close-knit family. For us, Gaida is not just a dance club, but a place where the Bulgarian spirit is alive and every new member finds a piece of home… At present our ensemble includes more than 50 active dancers, 28 of whom will perform on stage for this participation. We are a diverse group, our youngest dancer and the only child in the ensemble is 13 years old. All the rest of us have preserved the child within us, while also enjoying sufficient life experience. That is the magic of dance, once we all join the horo together, age loses its meaning because we are united by a shared rhythm and love for folklore,” Irina Uvarova said in conclusion.
The travelling festival Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance is organized by and for amateur folklore ensembles performing outside Bulgaria. The initiative was launched by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which hosted both the first edition in 2015 and the tenth edition in 2025. More than 100 dance ensembles and over 4,000 guests are expected at the 11th edition in Munich in May. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is the official media partner of the event and will present all participants.
