Yes, Bulgaria Co-chair Bozhanov Says Proposed Parliamentary Rule Changes Would Restrict Opposition Rights 2026

Balgarianovinite.com According to Yes, Bulgaria Co-Chair Bozhidar Bozhanov, the ruling majority is proposing controversial amendments to Parliament’s rules of procedure that would restrict the rights of the opposition. In a statement distributed by the party’s press office on Monday evening, Bozhanov said the proposed changes would shorten deadlines for reviewing draft legislation before committee and plenary debates and would make it easier to introduce extraordinary agenda items without prior consultation.
He also criticized proposals concerning temporary parliamentary committees, arguing that the changes would effectively limit the opposition’s ability to establish such bodies or request ministerial hearings.
According to Bozhanov, the amendments would also weaken parliamentary oversight by removing limits on postponing ministers’ answers during question time and would affect the opposition’s legislative initiatives.
He further claimed that the proposed amendments remove the obligation for institutions to provide documents to MPs and were submitted without proper reasoning.
Earlier this week, temporary committee chair Dimitar Zdravkov said the current parliamentary rules would serve as the basis for the new rulebook of the 52nd National Assembly, adding that proposals could be submitted until May 18.
