Balgarianovinite.com Some 300 hectares of farmland have been damaged by flooding in the Sevlievo area following heavy rainfall on May 22 and 23, Agriculture and Food Minister Plamen Abrovski said during a news briefing near Sevlievo on Monday. Abrovski, along with Regional Development and Public Works Minister Ivan Shishkov and Labour and Social Policy Minister Nataliya Efremova, carried out an on-site inspection of the progress of restoration work on the damaged water supply branch serving Sevlievo.
Preliminary data show that both cultivated land and livestock farms have been affected. Abrovski said that during his on-site visit he had observed extensive damage, including at two livestock facilities.
He noted that flooded pastures are making it difficult for farmers to keep their livestock fed, as the animals are unable to graze. Conditions were also found to be difficult at a dairy farm visited during the inspection.
Abrovski said that an organization for on-site operations has already been created, with municipal agricultural services working to collect information on the damage. After applications are submitted, officials have a ten-day period to conduct inspections, process the data, and forward it for compensation payments.
On May 22 and 23, heavy rainfall hit the Sevlievo area, causing flooding, infrastructure damage, disruptions to water supply, as well as damage to homes, agricultural land, and farms.
