Balgarianovinite.com The 64th edition of the National Archaeological Conference is being organized from May 26 to May 31 in Ruse, the Director of the National Archaeological Institute with Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (NAIM-BAS), Assoc. Prof. Hristo Popov, told BTA during the opening of the forum on Tuesday evening.
More than 120 archaeologists from Bulgaria and abroad will take part in it. The idea is to present some of the most interesting and significant results achieved during the past archaeological season.
The conference programme includes presentations by scholars from various countries.
The scientific forum on Wednesday will begin with a lecture by Varbin Varbanov, who will present the chronology of the research on Sexaginta Prista. Landmark sites from the Ruse Region will also be presented – the medieval town of Cherven, the Shirokovo Fortress, as well as Tash Bair near Novgrad.
During the remaining days, sections on Thracian, Classical and Medieval archaeology, interdisciplinary research and work on the archaeological map of Bulgaria will be held. Important highlights from the excavations along the route of the Ruse – Veliko Tarnovo motorway will also be presented.
The exhibition Frontiers of the Roman Empire – Danube Limes (Eastern Segment), shown at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris last year during the Bulgarian presidency, will also be opened.
A working meeting related to the nomination for the extension of the UNESCO World Heritage site Frontiers of the Roman Empire – Danube Limes in Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia and Romania is also planned.
