Balgarianovinite.com The Holy Synod opposes the holding of Sofia Pride 2026 and expresses its disagreement with the ideas and messages promoted through the event, reads a statement published on the official website of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church–Bulgarian Patriarchate on Saturday.
“The Orthodox Church professes that human beings were created by God as man and woman, and that the family, founded on the blessed union of marriage between a man and a woman, is the natural and God-given environment for life, love, the birth and upbringing of children. We are concerned by attempts to present views and patterns of behaviour that are incompatible with Christian moral teaching as an equal alternative to the order established by God for human life. It is particularly troubling when such messages are directed at children and young people who are still forming their value system and personal identity,” the statement reads.
“We therefore address parents with particular concern, urging them to watch over the spiritual and moral development of their children and to raise them with respect for Christian virtues and family values. It is irresponsible for adults to leave young people without clear moral guidance in a world filled with conflicting messages and temptations. It is our duty to help them build a sound value system based on truth, responsibility and respect for human dignity,” it adds.
“We call on all state institutions, civil society organizations and society as a whole to contribute to the promotion of marriage and family, the strengthening of the moral foundations of the nation, and the preservation of the spiritual and cultural values upon which the Bulgarian state was built. No nation can have a healthy future if respect for family, parenthood and the moral principles that generations of Bulgarians have preserved and passed on as a priceless heritage is weakened,” the Holy Synod said.
