Balgarianovinite.com “Movement for Rights and Freedoms [MRF] leader Delyan Peevski made changes to the structure and line-up of the party’s Central Operative Bureau at a regular meeting of the Central Council on Monday,” the MRF said in a press release. “The proposed changes respond to an analysis of the condition of the party structures, the election results and the objectives and challenges facing the MRF,” the party said.
“I will take the lead, and together with the whole leadership we will defend everybody, whethere a mayor, municipal councillor or rank-and-file member, and we will not tolerate anybody being unjustly pressured and bullied. Just as we supported the mayor of Kardzhali,” Peevski reportedly said at Monday’s meeting.
He was referring to the taking of Kardzhali Mayor Erol Myumyun for questioning at the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior on May 28. Peevski then personally headed a protest in the South Bulgarian city.
He emphasized that he had held a number of meetings and talks with representatives of the MRF structures, members and supporters during the last nearly two months since the early parliamentary elections on April 19. “I heard the people, and I will always hear them,” he added.
Peevski reminded the party’s local leaders that the MRF prioritizes people and the efforts for their welbeing. “The strength of the MRF is in the party’s unity and the accomplishment of its mission, which is the people of Bulgaria,” he pointed out.
According to the press release, the newly elected MRF Central Operative Bureau (COB) consists of Delyan Peevski (Chairperson), Nida Ahmedov, Halil Letifov, Erol Myumyun, Radoslav Revanski and Iskra Mihaylova-Koparova (Deputy Chairpersons), Ayten Sabri, Atidzhe Alieva-Veli, Taner Kabilov, Aydzhan Ahmed, Nedzhmi Ali, Mehmed Ataman, Hamdi Iliyazov, Erten Anisova and Dimitar Avramov.
Peevski, Letifov, Mihaylova, Sabri, Alieva and Avramov are MPs of the 21-member MRF Parliamentary Group. Kabilov is Member of the European Parliament. Ataman is former regional governor of Haskovo (Southeastern Bulgaria). Iliyazov is MRF regional leader in Targovishte (Northeastern Bulgaria). Anisova is a former MP. The other COB members are mayors: Revanski of Belitsa (Southwestern Bulgaria), Ahmedov of Kaolinovo (Northeastern Bulgaria), Myumyun of Kardzhali, Ahmed of Chernoochene (near Kardzhali), and Ali of Dzhebel (South Central Bulgaria).
This lineup thus leaves out Bayram Bayram, Jordan Tzonev and Hamid Hamid (the last two were also previously Central Operative Bureau Deputy Chairpersons).
On June 12, Talib Ismail, the former MRF leader in Novi Pazar (Northeastern Bulgaria), told BTA that all 26 members of the MRF municipal chapter were leaving the party, citing poor election results as the reason. On June 4, the MRF Municipal Council in Kirkovo (South Central Bulgaria) resigned, saying that their decision was due to “a build-up of tensions and deepening differences with the party’s central and regional leadership” and “persistent ignoring of the positions and decisions of the municipal party chapter”.
