Balgarianovinite.com Bulgaria has presented its position over the arson of Bulgarian diplomatic cars in Skopje in all possible formats, Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova told journalists on Wednesday before a meeting of the parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy.
The Bulgarian State, and the Foreign Ministry in particular, have clearly stated that they condemn this act, which shows that when hate speech is tolerated and affirmed in a country, it leads to such actions, Petrova said.
“We not only condemned it in a statement, but Bulgaria’s position was also presented at the General Affairs Council in Brussels and through our representatives in the Council of Europe. A dialogue is currently under way among Bulgarian MEPs as well, so that they can present Bulgaria’s position there too,” Petrova said.
“I spoke with my counterpart from North Macedonia and made it clear that we expect to learn not only who the perpetrator is, but also what the motives were and what measures will be taken on their part to prevent such acts from happening in the future,” she added.
Regarding the European Commission reports on the progress of the Western Balkan countries on their path to the EU, the foreign minister said that the discussion is ongoing and it is not clear what the vote will be. “With the latest proposed amendments, there is an attempt to remove an important part related to the work of the Historical Commission, and I hope these attempts will not be accepted,” Petrova said.
