Balgarianovinite.com In an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio aired on Sunday, Minister of Interior Ivan Demerdzhiev reported that additional laboratories to test drivers’ samples for drugs will be available starting August 1. He stated that the current number of laboratories that run such tests is insufficient.
Demerdzhiev reported that additional laboratories have not yet been opened, because someone decided to issue public procurement contracts for design work, even though a designer from the Ministry of the Interior is available. Public procurement contracts had been drafted. One of them for spackling, painting, and wiring was worth BGN 200,000. Demerdzhiev terminated these contracts, and the renovation was carried out using materials from the Ministry of the Interior, at a cost dozens of times lower. The Minister said that data is being collected on all public procurement contracts within his Ministry, and those that can be terminated are being terminated and replaced with alternative practices. Demerdzhiev noted that there are hundreds of contracts worth hundreds of millions within the Ministry of the Interior alone, which is why it has not been possible to review all of them in the nearly two months since the investigation began.
He commented on the issue of public procurement and corruption and stated that the previous regular government had ensured, through various ministries, agencies, and companies, that corrupt practices involving the siphoning of budget funds continued even after the cabinet had left office.
Demerdzhiev assured that, regarding road safety and traffic barriers, every effort will be made to examine how such barriers are constructed in Germany, how much they cost, and to compare them with prices and technology in Bulgaria. Demerdzhiev stated that it is concerning that only two companies supply traffic barriers in Bulgaria. He said: “Rumours suggest that the same person is behind both of them,” and added that these barriers are supplied at prices significantly higher than those in neighbouring countries, yet they are so flimsy that they can be easily bent even by an empty truck, which could kill the passengers in a vehicle moving in the opposite lane.
Demerdzhiev said that the Ministry of the Interior has compiled a list of the cases currently being investigated as files submitted to the prosecution service. He added: “I have been in contact with the acting Prosecutor General and have received her assurance that the prosecution service will do what is necessary to complete its work on the road accident cases, albeit with some delay, so that indictments can be filed.” New Laboratories to Test Drivers for Drug Driving from August 1 – Interior Minister 2026 THE NEWS FROM BULGARIA – NEWS AGENCY 2009-2025 2026-06-28 11:35:14 Latest news World news Country news Most important news latest news most important latest of the day Justice Petar Nizamov Feathers Petar Nizamov- Feathers Justice bg iustitia.bg iustitia iusticia usticia investigation Burgas Bulgaria news news of the last hour news of the day news of today Bulgaria news The news from Bulgaria blitz news top news most important most commented latest news Boyko Borisov news weather coronavirus news news weather facebook youtube facebook instagram news today news of the last minutes news today today news news bg news leading news hot news bg news site for news all news news bg news of the last hour latest latest news bg news of today news today news today news of the last hour latest news today news bg news news 24 hours news vesti bg novini news world bird bg bivol bg bivol trud bg novini latest news today novinite bg news hello bulgaria political party coat of arms delyan peevski scandalous Bulgarian National Television Free Europe Television scandal exclusive live tv live right now tv tv online tv program bg live now tv news online tv online live court Burgas court Burgas district court Burgas court Burgas district court Burgas district court Burgas appellate court Burgas prosecutor Burgas prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev Prosecutor Geshev Tsatsarov Ministry of Internal Affairs Burgas ODMR Burgas ODPR Burgas police Burgas district police Burgas prosecutor Tsatsarov SGS cases Varna court chairman of the SGS court decisions on civil cases decisions on cases Plovdiv court decision of the court decisions cases Varna court criminal cases district district court decisions work in the court SGS chairman of the SGS judges Sofia court post judges Plovdiv court Plovdiv judges Plovdiv Supreme Court Inspectorate Supreme Court Supreme Judicial Council lawyer lawyer criminal cases lawyer civil cases lawyer marriage cases lawyer administrative criminal law criminal process civil law civil process administrative law constitutional law
