Balgarianovinite.com Bansko will host the International Festival Academy for the first time, conductor Yordan Kamdzhalov told BTA on Sunday, calling the event “a miracle in these difficult times”.
Children from Bulgaria and abroad will perform alongside leading artists from Bulgaria, Europe and around the world.
The festival opens on July 8 and will conclude with three concerts that Kamdzhalov described as a true inspiration and an apotheosis of talent, youth and the future.
The initiative brings together children and young people aged 8 to 16 from Bulgaria and abroad, giving them the opportunity to join an international children’s festival choir and take part in large-scale music productions of world-class standard, organizers said.
Three major concerts are scheduled for July 16, 17 and 18: a gala performance by the Children’s Festival Choir, the large-scale Bulgaria Sings project and a staging of Carl Orff’s monumental Carmina Burana.
The academy will also feature a cultural programme, including visits to major historical, natural and cultural sites in the Bansko area.
The project features established ensembles and artists, including the Genesis Orchestra, the Idna Vocal Group, the Genova & Dimitrov Piano Duo, Music Laboratory for the Human and an international children’s festival choir. All events are under Kamdzhalov’s artistic direction and involve a highly qualified teaching team.
The event is organized by the Yordan Kamdzhalov Foundation, Stremezh Private Primary School and Bansko Municipality.
In late June, Kamdzhalov, together with the Pleven Philharmonic and soloists Veronika Todorova and Atanas Marinov, presented Musical Magic in Sandanski and Dobrinishte.
On Saturday and Sunday, the second edition of the Kamdzhalov in the Valley of Roses festival was held at the Damascena Ethnographic Complex near Pavel Banya. Sunday evening’s Mystery and Freedom concert featured Sofi Marinova as a special guest, with The Eastern Quartet from Switzerland, the Genesis Orchestra, and the choir and ensemble of Music Laboratory for the Human also taking the stage at the ethnographic complex.
Kamdzhalov said the Mystery and Freedom tour will end its season on August 10 at the Ancient Theatre in Plovdiv.
Bansko has established itself as one of Bulgaria’s leading jazz centres. The Bansko Jazz Festival marked its 28th edition in 2025 with a 10-day programme, multiple stages, youth formats, world music performances and concerts by Bulgarian and international artists. Its 29th edition is scheduled for July 31 to August 9, 2026.
Kamdzhalov’s recent projects combine classical music, folklore, improvisation, jazz and large choral formats. His Mystery and Freedom tour brings together Sofi Marinova, the Genesis Orchestra, Music Laboratory for the Human and The Eastern Quartet from Switzerland, while the Kamdzhalov in the Valley of Roses festival features the Bulgaria Sings participatory format and performances by the Genesis Orchestra, the Smiling Stars Children’s Choir and the Choir of Music Laboratory for the Human Self.
