Balgarianovinite.com On occasion of the International Day for Women in Diplomacy celebrated on June 24, Bulgaria took part in the fifth edition of Not a Woman’s Job? photo exhibition dedicated to distinguished women leaders of countries, societies and communities, the press office of the Permanent Representation of Republic of Bulgaria in Geneva, Switzerland said on Tuesday.
The exhibition was held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, in collaboration between the United Nations Office at Geneva, UN Women and the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan. UN Geneva Director-General Tatiana Valovaya delivered opening remarks at the event’s inauguration.
The initiative aims to support the overcoming of prejudices against women empowerment and their equality with men, providing concrete examples of successful women leaders in the political and public life, the organizers said. Every participating state contributed to the event with photos and short presentation of their representatives.
Bulgaria was represented by President Iliana Iotova and National Assembly Chair Mihaela Dotsova. The Permanent Mission of Bulgaria in Geneva noted in their press release that the country applies the highest international standards regarding gender equality and has significant accomplishments in the area due to the constant contributions made by gifted Bulgarian women leaders to public well-being.
A total of 50 NATO Member States participated in the event which was attended by diplomatic mission representatives, international organizations’ officials, as well as NGO representatives.
