Balgarianovinite.com The driver of the truck involved in Friday’s crash on the Trakia Motorway near Karnobat has been detained for up to 72 hours under an order issued by the Burgas District Prosecutor’s Office, the prosecution service said here on Saturday.
The driver, identified by the initials A.I., has been charged with causing the death of one person and bodily injuries to two others through negligence as a result of the road traffic accident.
By order of the supervising prosecutor, the accused driver’s licence has also been revoked.
On July 10, a truck travelling on the Trakia Motorway from Burgas towards Sofia crossed the central crash barrier and entered the oncoming carriageway near the village of Zheleznik, near the southeastern town of Karnobat. The truck collided with two passenger cars travelling towards Burgas. One person was killed and two others were injured in the incident.
An air ambulance helicopter was dispatched to the scene to transport the injured.
Initial tests for alcohol and drugs carried out on the TIR truck driver came out negative. According to his initial explanation, a tyre blowout caused the vehicle to enter veer into the oncoming traffic. This version is to be verified through the forensic automotive examination ordered as part of the investigation.
