Balgarianovinite.com Speaking at a press briefing at BTA’s press club here on Monday, Greek actor Michail Tabakakis expressed gratitude to the team behind the staging of The Bacchae directed by Javor Gardev based on Euripides’s tragedy. After the play was already staged at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus in Greece on July 10 and 11, the actor described his role in the play as a very important personal moment.
Tabakakis shared: “I don’t know if my Bulgarian colleagues can understand how significant it is for a Greek to perform for the first time at Epidaurus.” An even greater challenge for him was the fact that the play is performed in English rather than his native Greek.
The actor added: “Despite all these difficulties, I feel very grateful because I had a wonderful director who trusted me and gave me the freedom to feel creatively confident – almost to feel safe – so that I could take on the enormous challenge that is [portraying the character of] Pentheus.”
Tabakakis concluded that while the team faced numerous challenges, they were ultimately able to achieve everything that they wanted and had envisioned.
