Balgarianovinite.com “Our ambition is to genuinely protect Bulgarian fruit and vegetable producers from unfair competition,” said Agriculture Minister Plamen Abrovski during a meeting with representatives of the greenhouse production sector. The discussion focused on opportunities to improve the competitiveness of Bulgarian producers through legislative changes, stronger import controls, and measures to ease the operations of the sector. The meeting was attended by Deputy Ministers Krum Nedelkov and Yanislav Yanchev, the ministry said.
Industry representatives raised issues related to the need for more effective control over fruit and vegetable imports, limiting unfair competition, and creating better conditions for the development of Bulgarian production. The participants also discussed the possibility of introducing a VAT reverse charge mechanism, the need for an agricultural cooperatives act and a law on branch organizations, as well as easing land-use regulations for the construction and development of greenhouses.
Minister Abrovski said that the government has given full freedom to undertake the necessary reforms in the sector. He noted that effective mechanisms will be sought to counter unfair trade practices. He also said that he would hold a meeting with the National Revenue Agency to discuss the possibility of introducing a comparative analysis of agricultural product prices with those in neighboring countries, with the aim of achieving better market control and transparency.
At a meeting with Minister Abrovski in early July, representatives of the greenhouse sector emphasized the need for targeted investments in modern greenhouse facilities and equipment that would increase productivity and improve the quality of production.
They also raised issues related to the insurance of glass greenhouses, as well as the need to create more favorable conditions for the development of the sector amid the changing climate.
