Balgarianovinite.com The Bansko Jazz Festival presents on Friday evening an international project that brings together two distant cultures through the universal language of music, Sanix Band (Japan–Bulgaria), the organizers announced.
The project is the result of a creative collaboration between Bulgarian jazz singer Nadya Toncheva and a group of distinguished Japanese musicians, led by guitarist and composer Yuichi Ishikawa, the Bansko Jazz Festival said. They added that the idea for the project originated in 2025, when Nadya Toncheva performed in Fukuoka, Japan. Her encounter with local musicians marked the beginning of a new artistic partnership, which today continues on stage in Bansko.
Before that, on the festival’s main stage, the audience will hear the Hristina Beleva and Petar Milanov duo in a world where folk, jazz and world music come together naturally. At the heart of this music there are just two instruments – the gadulka, a traditional Bulgarian bowed string instrument with a pear-shaped body usually carved from a single piece of wood, and the guitar, according to the organizers.
The Bansko Jazz Festival is organized by the Festivals in Bulgaria Association and the Municipality of Bansko. The Jazz Fest is on in the southwestern skiing resort of Bansko between July 31 and August 9.
